Founded in 2002, the
Leica Hardy School of Dance is located in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. The
school provides outstanding dance education in a friendly and constructive environment for ages three to adult.
The school’s philosophy is to provide people - young and adult, recreational student or aspiring young dancer - with the highest quality of dance instruction in an environment that is enjoyable, accessible and values the individual.
These standards are met by adhering to a policy of small class sizes, where respect, highest goals and individual attention are a part of every class.
Classes in creative movement, ballet, modern dance, jazz and conditioning for dancers are offered in our general school and intensive training programs. The syllabus and examinations offered by the Society of Russian Ballet form the core of the school’s curriculum, ensuring healthy technical and artistic progression at every level.
Annually students perform in the year-end showcase and in The Nutcracker with Symphony Nova Scotia. The school’s performance company, KiDanCo, will be launched this spring in Soliloquies, a student choreographic workshop performance.
Leica Hardy’s enjoyment of dance and movement has been a lifetime activity with over 30 years of teaching, choreographic and directorial experience and is best known as the choreographer and director of The Nutcracker, presented annually since 1991 by Symphony Nova Scotia.
On May 20th, studio owner Leica Hardy received an Honorary Doctorate of Fine Arts from St. Mary’s University for her contributions to dance education in the region.
Since the school’s founding students have been accepted to training programs at Canada’s National Ballet School, The School of the Toronto Dance Theatre, LADMMI, Royal Winnipeg Ballet School, Bates College Dance Festival, The Quinte Ballet School and Ballet Jorgen Canada.
Former students are pursuing successful careers as teachers, artistic directors and independent choreographer/performers, and have danced with such companies as: The National Ballet of Canada, Mocean Dance, Dancemakers, Carré des Lombes, Parsons Dance and O Vertigo.
