The Princess Margaret Hospital Foundation will host its first Dance to Conquer Cancer fundraiser in Toronto on Sunday, February 12 and you're invited to join in and boogie down!
"We hope that our Dance to Conquer Cancer fundraiser will inspire those touched by cancer, while offering people a one-of-a-kind, engaging event using the elements of dance and disco!" said Paul Alofs, President and CEO of The Princess Margaret Foundation.
Beginning at noon, participants will be challenged to dance 10, 000 steps in a four-hour dance-a-thon for Disco Days. Dance fans, here's your chance to get some moves from dance sensations! Using memorable moves from the 1970s and 1980s, fitness guru Richard Simmons will lead the crowd with his dancersize routine, while
So You Think You Can Dance Canada choreographer Blake McGrath will teach two disco dancers.
Once you've got those moves down, disco kings and queens can hit the floor with their new-found moves and dance the night away during the second part of the fundraiser, Boogie Nights, where disco queen Gloria Gaynor will perform including (we hope) her hit, "I Will Survive".
Dance experience isn't necessary! According to Alofs, "it's a great way to start off the New Year with some fitness and family fun and support for an important cause."
In Canada, 40% of women and 45% of men will face a cancer diagnosis. The Princess Margaret Hospital Foundation raises over $70 million annually to support breakthrough research and patient care and education programs of Princess Margaret Hospital, Canada's leading cancer research hospital.
Dance to Conquer Cancer is expected to draw out 500 participants, each challenged to raise $500 for high priority cancer research. For more information on registration and tickets, head to
