A new dance environment, a different dance experience.
Whether interest is purely recreational to pre-professional and professional training, Montreal dance-goers starting from age three can take on a variety of dance styles (ballet, tap, jazz, hip hop, contemporary, modern, salsa) at
Extravadanza Productions.
The first studio (
Extravadanza I) opened in 2008 in Dollard-des-Ormeaux, while
Extravadanza II on the east end of Montreal last September. Plans for a third studio in the Boisbriand area are currently underway.
A dance mom for over 13 years, owner
Luisa Sassano has observed, experienced and learned from the dance world as her two daughter competed in recreational and competitive. Sassano says this experience -good and bad- inspired her as a business woman to create an environment where a parent could trust to send their child and know that their child could obtain technically correct dance instruction in an environment concerned with injury prevention (sprung floors) and a positive teaching approach.
With professional sprung floor, high ceilings and an emphasis on correct instruction (verified by a third party examiner),
Extravadanza strives to assure the physical and psychological well being of all dance students.
The competition team trains and practices for three to four competitions including
Terpsichore,
American Dance Awards and
Showstoppers. A first for
Extravadanza this year, ballet dancer
Kim McBain, trained by
Paula Urrutia of the
National Ballet of Argentina, attended the
Youth American Grand Prix ballet finals in New York.
Students also have access to a variety of external choreographers who are invited to give workshops and master classes at the studios. Guest choreographers include Mia Michaels, Francisco Gella, Blake McGrath.
Extravadanza recently acquired the
Rialto Theatre in Montreal which serves as a venue for performances, workshops and conventions.
Keep an eye out for their year-end recital as the “danZers” perform two 90 minute variety shows as well as a complete ballet suite featuring
Coppelia ballet.
